Camp "Good News 2008"

2The older campers, ages 12-17 participated in the Taekwondo/Precept Bible Study Program. Most of these young people have been involved in Bible Studies throughout the year and have a solid understanding of scripture. Many of them have worked hard at their Taekwondo training as indicated by their colored belts.  These young people were content to keep close to their group, but when we asked them to give up their free time and help us with the younger campers they stepped in and made our load lighter.

The team I was blessed with was INCREDIBLE! Each member of the team was stretched; some just beyond their comfort zone, others to their limits. God wanted each one to go home with a new testimony and that required a “test”. I watched each one face their own challenges head on with the faith that if God led them to it, He would get them through it.

The Moldovan team arrived at camp already close to each other and ready to pour out. They were so strong in so many ways and I am grateful that we could rely on their experience and their strengths as we quickly bonded and became united in our mission.
It gave each of us the confidence that “together” we would not fail. In His Grace we lived out Romans 8:37, “Know in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

The first night at Camp I shared a devotion using John 13:5 as the backdrop, “The pathway to Blessings is Service”. Jesus’ example of servanthood was to drop to his knees and do the job that was least desirable, even in the servant community; washing the feet of the apostles. Camp Good News’ servants became the flesh of Christ as they lived out this example. John 13:12-17.

I am so proud of every member of the team. Each one of these special people is living out God’s purpose and plan. In fulfilling their destiny they are blessing mine. God must approve because two days after camp He felt we were ready for the final exam. After seeing the sights in the capitol city we headed up to our apartment on the 7th floor. We all eagerly “packed” into the large rickety elevator for one final accent before the team departed. The doors closed and the power went out. We were trapped for over a hour before being rescued. One of our team members is asthmatic and had difficulty breathing but, kept calm. No one allowed fear to win and I commented, “It’s going to be hard to convince those on the outside we’re in trouble because it sounds like there’s a party going on in here”. Instead of panic we prayed and asked God to part the doors the way He parted the Red Sea. The signs we now wear proudly read; “tested and approved”!

I pray our service to God will bear much fruit as we rest in the gratitude of our hearts. We believed the promise of God and we were strengthened in our faith. We gratefully gave glory to God, being fully satisfied and assured that God was able and mighty to keep His word and do what he had promised.
