Camp "Good News 2008"

1Camp Good News had one central theme; “God is foolishly in love with you. This unfailing love will be the rock on which you can anchor your heart and your soul;
Pass it on !

Did you ever notice when something is put on your heart, its message is everywhere. Last week during my quiet time I started listing all the signs God hung over our mission and the camp; each one proclaiming His love for us. During yesterday morning’s broadcast of Joyce Meyer, she spoke on the love of God and told her viewers to watch for signs of God’s love, referring to Psalm 86:17, “Give me a sign of your goodness,”

I am excited to tell you; I saw God holding the signs!! The Lord wanted us to know He had gone before us and so, on our drive out to camp, there in the evening sky was a beautiful rainbow. I knew in my heart that God was speaking to all of us through His creation; He was telling us this would be a VERY special week and He fulfilled His promise! His promise was God sized and so were His blessings.

Almost 200 campers and leaders enjoyed a camp that honored the Lord of All and He, himself blessed it all! Half of our campers were under twelve years of age, with two cabins of little ones between 3-7 years of age. The youngest campers were transported by bus from an orphanage
2 hours away. Most of them had never been outside of their orphanage and everything was new and an adventure. As often happens when groups of “novice travelers” ride on a hot bus, a third of the passengers were sick. This proved to be a problem the first couple of days as they were not use to fresh fruits and vegetables and keeping up to a full day of activity. By the third day so many succumbed that I had to set up an infirmary to house sick little ones and assign two nurses hired from the village to cover day and night shifts.

This challenge could have become an insurmountable obstacle but, we choose to believe this was an opportunity to overcome. The night before approximately half the toddlers suffered from bed-wetting or sickness. The two care-givers that came with these children and our assigned team members were exhausted. We prayed, knowing only God could do a miracle. Our team meetings were held in an “upper room”. The significance of the room was a reminder of the seriousness of His command; Pray and Believe. As we were obedient, we were blessed with getting to watch God work. The next night only 1 little one wet the bed and all sick campers had recovered fully with no new reports of illness.
